On January 18, 2011, The Columbia Chapter of the Links, Inc. was awarded a grant for $2500 for the National Childhood Obesity Initiative. This process displayed the strength and innovation of The Links, Incorporated chapters. We received proposals from over 45 chapters from across the nation. During round one of the RFP review process, all proposals were reviewed by representatives from non-competitive chapters. In this phase, proposals that fulfilled all RFP requirements and based on a standardized scoring matrix proceeded to the next phase (second round). In the second round, proposals were reviewed by Community Voices of Morehouse School of Medicine staff members as well as selected Morehouse School of Medicine faculty/staff, who are experts in community based programs and childhood obesity. During this round, proposals with the highest competitive scores were forward on to the third round of the review process. Round three proposals were reviewed by the Chair of the National Childhood Obesity Initiative Committee and selected committee members. The committee reviewed proposals for merit, chapter capacity and to ensure geographical as well as rural vs. urban balance. Based on the results from the committee, 26 chapter projects (5 Eastern, 7 Western, 4 Central, 10 Southern) were selected for funding.
We are proud to inform you that the Columbia (SC) Chapter was selected to be a recipient of a Can You Imagine Me: National Childhood Obesity Initiative mini-grant in the amount of $2,500.
